CHILDREN & FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION FAQS

Q: WILL YOU TRAVEL TO MY LOCATION?

A: There are many beautiful places for outdoor photo shoots around Michigan. We are happy to travel anywhere within a 20 mile radius of Ionia Michigan. We have great props and equipment that we can bring along, and will work together with you to find the spot that works best for your family. Anything out of a 20 mile radius of Ionia Michigan is subject to a travel fee determined by the photographer.

Q: WHAT PHOTOGRAPHY PROPS AND SETTINGS DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR CHILDREN?

A: Poses, props, and locations that have worked for our previous clients and that are safe and conducive to photo shoots are the ones we’d be first to recommend. The best photographs are the ones that capture the personality and interests of your child. Chat with us about what makes your child special so that we can set the scene to create images that truly capture your child’s unique personality.

Q: HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD CHILDREN’S PHOTOGRAPHY SESSIONS BE SCHEDULED?

A: Sessions should generally be booked at least a month in advance. During the warmer months and especially around the holidays, you may want to book your session earlier so that we can accommodate you.

POST PRODUCTION QUESTIONS

Q: What do I get from my shoot?

A: You will receive the number of images included in your package. All images are delivered in high resolution format and can be printed up to an 8x10. Print products are available through captured by kenzie if you wish to print bigger. Your images will be delivered via online gallery– pictures will be in your email inbox as soon as they’re done.

Q: How Many pictures do i get?

A: As many as you decide you want. The package you pick will come with a base set amount of pictures included to get you started, but you’re not limited to those only. Once you start flipping through your proofing gallery you’ll be able to add as many extra images as you’d like for an additional fee per image.

Q: Can I get the unedited images for free ?

A: You can think of your photography session like getting a beautiful cake from a cake decorating shop – there are eggs and flower and sugar that go into it, but also the skill and talent of the cake decorator. The editing part of my process is just like frosting and decorating a cake – a great batter is needed to have the perfect sponge, but it’s only half of the finished product. Giving someone the unedited images would be like giving them just a bowl of cake batter – it’s just not the finished product I offer.

Q: When will my pictures be ready?

A: After your photo session I will take couple of days to go through all the images, take out all the weird closed eyes ones that won’t work, and prepare and send your proofing gallery so you can start your selection. Once you’re done I can start working on editing your pictures (this is where the final magic happens!), which will take up to 30 days. If you’re working with a specific date in mind, you can let me know before we set the shoot date and I can see what we can do to get your pictures back to you in time to meet that goal, depending on availability.

General Questions

Q: Will you share my images online?

A: This is 100% up to you! I get excited about taking beautiful images and want to share them on my website and social media, but I understand the need for privacy so we will discuss before starting the session. You can opt to only share some, keep them all private or share all of them. There is no extra charge for keeping your images private.

Q: How many outfits can I wear?

A: This will depend on what session you booked, and how many outfit changes come with it. I do not offer outfit changes for mini sessions.

Q: How about hair & make up ?

A: Completely up to you! I tend to recommend some just so we have a more polished final look, and some shoot types like pin up really benefit from the additional styling. I can help with all the glamming up, but you’re also welcome to trust your skills or those of another artist you prefer.

Q: How much is edited and PHOTO SHOPPED?

A: I have a general editing style you can see when browsing my galleries. Your images will be edited similarly for colors, keeping in mind that every shoot is unique so no two would be 100% exact. I will not match another photographer’s work if requested. I will not apply digital makeup, the client has to make sure their hair and makeup up are up to their liking before starting the shoot. Similarly, things that can be easily taken care of while you prep for your shoot will not be edited – taking wrinkles out of clothes, removing unwanted body hair, touching up hair color roots for example. Basic editing is included with every session. Extensive editing is subject to additional charge at the photographers discretion depending on the project.

Q: What should I wear?

A: For outdoor photography, choose lighter tones and pastel colors for the most pleasing results. Family members don’t have to match exactly, but should stay coordinated with simple, comfortable clothing that blends with the environment. Avoid dark clothing, graphics/logos, and primary colors that have a tendency to stand out and clash with the environment. Ladies, we’ll be kneeling and sitting from time to time so be wary of low necklines and short skirts. Overall…be comfortable.

Q: When is the best time to take pictures?

A: The best time is the “golden hour” just before sunset when the light is softer and the temperature is more moderate. This may vary depending on the time of year.

Q: Can I Bring my pet?

A: We understand pets are a huge part of many of our customer’s families. However, if you do choose to bring along your pet, we highly recommend inviting a pet handler or a friend to help out during the session. That way if your pet is having a bad day we can still get a nice variety of family portraits taken. A small pet fee will apply to your session at a rate of $35 per pet. Please abide by all required leash laws depending on the location of the session.

Q: WHen & How should I book my session?

A: You’ll want to make your reservation well in advance to get the best time slot…the golden hour. During our peak season (June through August) it is a good idea to book 3-4 weeks in advance. Many of our repeat families book at the same time they make their accommodation plans. We also recommend booking early in your stay to avoid any sunburn or scraped knee mishaps. Also, if we have a weather issue it gives us more time to try and reschedule your appointment. The best way to reserve your appointment is to fill out the inquire form. You should receive a response with in 1-3 business days via email.

Q: My session was over a year ago and I don’t have my images anymore? Can I get them again?

A: Yes & no, while we always intend to keep our clients images, it is the clients responsibility to back up their images. Online gallery's are purged every year on January 1st to make room for new gallery's. But please don't hesitate to reach out, we will see what we can do. $35 reopening gallery fee will apply.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: A non refundable retainer fee is due at the time of booking along with a signed contract. If you decide to cancel your session for whatever reason your retainer fee will be forfeited, and is non transferable to any other future session. I will allow one reschedule free of charge, anything after that will be subject to a rescheduling fee of $65.
